Problem & Challenge
Creative users relied on multiple AI and writing tools to refine scripts, creating a fragmented workflow that slowed script writing and video production.
My Solution
Designed the Script Node, an AI-native editor that combines AI-powered refinement with manual editing, enabling users to create, restructure, and polish scripts without leaving Vicino Canvas.
Impact
Launched an AI-native script editor within Vicino Canvas, reduced context switching, and established the foundation for Vicino’s AI video production workflow.
CONTEXT
Building the foundation of an AI video production workflow
Vicino Canvas is an AI-native creative production platform that enables marketing teams to generate multimedia content through a node-based workflow.
The video production pipeline is:
Script Node→ Storyboard Node → Shot Node → Video Editor
I designed the Script Node, the foundation of the video generation workflow. As Vicino expanded into B2B, we learned that most marketing teams already had draft scripts and needed a faster way to refine them for production.

CHALLENGE
AI accelerated writing, but fragmented the workflow
Users relied on external AI tools to improve scripts, constantly switching between script-writing tools to rewrite, copy, paste, and manually edit content.

So, how might we bring AI into the writing workflow while preserving the creative control that users expect?

Keep users in the workflow by balancing intelligent automation with manual control.
AI-assisted polish at every level
AI supports iteration from the big picture to fine details. Users can enhance an entire script, individual scenes, or selected text with one-click actions like Enhance, or guide the AI with custom prompts for more targeted refinements.

Keep humans in control
AI generates the first draft, not the final decision. Users can review AI suggestions, restructure, add, remove, merge, and split scenes, or fine-tune content inline, without leaving Vicino Canvas, creating a seamless workflow between AI assistance and human judgment.

ITERATIONS
Reducing friction between AI and manual editing
Through design critiques and engineering discussions, I refined the Script Node into two complementary editing experiences to reduce cognitive load, giving users more space and familiarity for reviewing and manually editing content.

Both capabilities lived directly in the Script Node, following existing interaction patterns in Vicino. However, the limited canvas space made long scripts harder to review, blurred the distinction between AI suggestions and manual editing, and introduced technical challenges with real-time content synchronization.

After: Two formats, two editing needs
I introduced Text Editor as a secondary format for the Script Node, designed for more focused content review and manual editing. The Script Node itself remained for quick access to AI-assisted scene polish and structural edits, creating clearer roles for each interaction while reducing user and technical friction.

OUTCOME

REFLECTION
Designing AI products isn’t about maximizing automation. It’s about knowing where AI should lead and where users should stay in control.
This project also enhanced my ability to balance the trade-off between user needs, technical constraints, and business priorities.
